Description / Abstract
Sinularia is a genus of soft coral whose species exhibit a spectrum of two complementary methods of defense against predation: sharp spines (physical defense) and cytotoxic compounds (chemical defense). This project hypothesizes that, in order to conserve energy, a coral will employ one method of defense over the other, leading to an inverse correlation between individual cytotoxic compound concentration and physical defendedness.
