This project tells the stories of families involved in an emerging L'Arche community in San Diego through a short documentary and narrative storytelling that also explores disability theology and the meaning of 'community.' L'Arche is a worldwide federation of communities where people with and without intellectual disabilities live and work together. My paper engages with philosophers such as Jean Luc Nancy, Sharon Betcher, Nancy Eisland and others to rethink ‘community’ as encounter rather than ideology.
